TOM LOGAN Workshop – Best EVER!

Director/ Acting Coach Tom Logan

Tom Logan

The Tom Logan Workshop is the BEST I’ve ever taken. EVER! I wouldn’t have believed one teacher could open my eyes SO much is such a short time. Tom Logan (director, actor) did it.

As an actor for over 10 years, I have done a lot of studying, taken classes, workshops, seminars…you name it and I bet I’ve taken it or something darn close. You just have to in this business. You’ve got to keep your “chops up”.

My agent brought Tom Logan to town for a weekend seminar, and since I was free that weekend, I decided to attend. I honestly didn’t know anything about the man, but I had heard he was one of those rare “actors director” types that can really communicate and pull the best out of an actor. Turns out he’s also an AMAZING TEACHER!

If you are an actor, you know how difficult it can be to not “act”. We spend so much time and money trying to learn how to just be ourselves. Every class I’ve ever taken had a different way to teach it. Different methods, techniques, different things to practice. What they tried to teach (usually for hundreds of dollars more and over 3 or 4 months of weekly classes) Tom taught us in a few minutes.

He filmed us doing scenes “before and after”. You would hardly believe you were looking at the same people. I knew several people in the class from having worked on different shoots with them. So, I had a pretty good idea of where their acting skills hit the wall. I just knew their limits (even if I couldn’t see my own, lol).

I guess you’re way ahead of me. These fellow actors, these known commodities, blew me away with their realistic and sometimes moving scenes. I find it hard to believe how quickly and substantially this happened even as I’m writing about it.

Anyway, you’ll just have to see for yourself. I took a 3 day weekend course. By the time it was done there had been this huge bonding between the actors. Nobody wanted it to end. It was literally a catharsis.

I had to post this because as an actor, the hardest thing for me was figuring out what “type” I am and how to act without acting. I now have a totally fresh and powerful understanding of all that which I was searching for literally for years and years. I hope this helps point the way to other actors who are still looking for the same thing.      Will Act 4 food =)

Oh, and I found an Unofficial Tom Logan Workshop Fan Page on Facebook that’s worth checking out, too.
